Menu items disappearing

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Items are disappearing from my word menus

Under File, the 'Save As' line is gone, as is 'Open New Document'

Under Tools, "Spelling and Grammar' is gone

They're not greyed out - but have vanished entirely

I've tried uninstalling Word and reinstalling from the original disc

Which all goes fine, but the missing menu items remain missing

Any suggestions gratefully received

Reinstalling rarely is a fix... The files having the problem are not touched
in the majority of cases. Make sure you re-apply updates by running the
Check for Updates command from the Help menu of any Office app.

To correct the menu issue go to Tools> Customize> Customize Menus &
Toolbars, on the Toolbars page click the name of the Menu Bar, then click
the Reset button. If that doesn't correct it once you OK out of the dialog
come back for more information.
