There are two tests you can run to confirm you are truly connected to the
Project Server system from Microsoft Project Professional:
1. Click File - Save. You should see the Save dialog pointing at the
Project Server database. It you see local folders on your hard drive, such
as the My Documents folder, then you are NOT connected.
2. Click Tools - Build Team from Enterprise. If you see enterprise
resources stored in your Enterprise Resource Pool, then you are connected.
If the option is disabled on the Tools menu, then you are NOT connected.
Do both of these tests. If you truly are connected to the Project Server
system, then Gary's original advice stands. If you are opening an .mpp file
from a folder on your hard drive, then you cannot publish this file. To
publish a project, it must be an enterprise project stored in the Project
Server database. To import the .mpp project into the Project Server
database, click Tools - Enterprise Options - Import Project to Enterprise.
Select your .mpp project from its current location and work through all the
pages in the dialog. When finished, click the Save As link in the Import
Projects Wizard sidepane to save it in the Project Server database. Hope
this helps.
