Menus disappear when database opens

Hi, I have a database which is protected against changes to its design and if
someone could tell me how can I "unprotect" the database so I can make
changes again, I'll appreciate it.

When the database is opened (clicking on db.mdb file), the Menu bar and any
other toolbar that could let me modify the design of forms/tables goes away.
The main database window does not show either but only the main form is
displayed.

There is no password to protect the database.

I am using Access 2003 but I believe the database was developed in a prior
version of Access (XP, or 2002).

Any ideas?

thanks much in advance.

Hi.

When opening the database, try holding down the <SHIFT> key until the
database file is completely open. You may also need to press the <F11> key
to open the hidden database window.

If that doesn't work, post back with information about whether this is the
Runtime version or an MDE database file you are using, because these things
can limit what one can do with menus, toolbars and design changes.

HTH.
