Menus disappeared

My program has suddenly stopped showing the Standard menu when I open Word. To get it to appear I have to click View and unclick Standard, close, then reopen View and click Standard again. When I open the Customize Toolbar menu, the Standard box is checked under Show, although the Dock box, though checked, is pale. The Formatting palette does appear, BTW.

How can I get the Standard menu to show up again?
thanks

At the extreme upper right corner of the document window there is an oblong
button to collapse/expand the area containing Docked toolbars - Click it :)
It's an OS X novelty that doesn't bear any identifying marks or Tip boxes.

BTW: Not to be "picky" but what's hiding are Toolbars, not the Menu. It may
sound like an trivial matter but the distinction is important :)

OMG -- thanks so much. Have been fiddling with this for days trying to figure out what my one year old managed to click that LOST my toolbars! Thanks!
