Merge does not complete

When I open my letter to merge, it keeps getting hung up on waiting to accept
DDE commands (from access). and then doesn't respond. Any help?

Version of Office? Did this used to work (in this version of Office)?

Have you checked whether the checkbox to allow DDE is activated in Tools/Options
(can't remember which tab) in Access?
