Merge from BCM to Word creates extra blank document

I'm a little frustrated by a minor issue.

Is there a way to avoid having BCM create a blank document when merging?
What happens is that I get my merged document just fine, but I also get a
blank Word document to go along with it. When I'm merging letters for various
contacts this gets pretty annoying.

This may be a Word issue instead...
