Merging Two documents and have them print duplex as one document

Here is what I need to do - I have a word document with several pages (grade
reports), usually in the thousands. Each page is a separate grade report. I
have a generic letter that I would like to print out on the back of each
grade report (duplex printing). How can I add this generic letter to the
back of each of the grade report? Is there a way to do this without using a
macro...and if not how can I do it with a macro? Thanks.

You could try to do it with find and replace but I'd recommend doing it on a
copy of the document so you can go back to your original if necessary. I am
assuming you have a normal page break after each grade report.

1. Open the document containing the letter you want to put on the back of
each page.

2. Press CTRL+A to select everything and then CTRL+C to copy it to the
clipboard.

3. Go to your grade report document and press CTRL+H to get the Replace
window.

4. Click in the Find box and then click the More button to display the
extra replace features. Click on the Special button and choose 'Manual Page
Break'

5. Click in the Replace box and click on the Special box to choose 'Manual
Page Break', then choose 'Clipboard Contents' from the Special button then
choose 'Manual Page Break' again, you should have the codes ^m^c^m in the
Replace box.

6. Click the Find Next button and it should find your first page break,
click the Replace button to replace it. If you think everything is working
OK, click Replace All to carry out all the replacements.

This won't copy information from the header/footer of your letter and won't
work if your large document is separated by section breaks and not page
breaks but if you need headers/footers on the letter you should be able to
add them later by setting your headers and footers to 'different odd and
even' in the File > Page Setup window and then adding your header/footer
information to the even page header/footer.

A lot simpler would be to print out your grade report one-sided. Then print
or copy the letter on the other side. Even with a macro, with thousands of
reports you are going to almost certainly have wasted - messed-up - reports
trying to print duplexed.
