message format problem

Some of the messages I receive from a distribution list arrive as an
unreadable garble of Chinese characters, question marks in small boxes, and
dots. Others who receive messages from this distribution list also have
garbled messages. Is there a solution for this, and is the problem with me
or with the sender?

Looks like the sender is using a language or encoding format that
Outlook does not recognize. Can't tell without seeing the headers of
the e-mail (if you copy them here, munge or star out the sender and your
e-mail addresses).

When I bring up internet headers, this is all I get:

X-Vipre-Scanned: 063E2415001474063E2562

Might this be an issue with Vipre anti-virus changing the message?

Scanning e-mail with an antivirus program is the primary source of formatting
issues for incoming mail.
