Message: must "reactivate your product...to avoid reduced functionality"

Word in Office XP Standard 2002 recently
requests "reactivation" by putting in the CD and running
the dropdown. Have done this several times, and have
uninstalled/reinstalled Office several times as well. If
try to type characters, get "This command not available
because document is locked for edit." (No document is up,
and New/Blank Document is grayed out.) TIA for any help!
