Messages sent not the same as messages received

With Word as my e-mail editor and sending in HTML format when I use the
apostophe or quotes key the proper text appears in my composed message.
However, when I look at the message in my "sent items" folder, the ' and "
are placed by a square box. The recipient also gets the messages with the
boxes instead of the ' or ". Sending a message in rich text eliminates this
problem, but any attachments then wind up in the body of the message and are
sometimes not received by the recipient. How can I fix this glitch and still
use HTML format.

Only other Outlook users can successfully read rich text format because it's
specific to Outlook. You can turn off Word as your email editor and use HTML
emails, this might be your simplest choice.

??? Look at that the OP said in the very first sentence:

S/he's already using HTML format.

Here's what I did to correct the problem with quotes and aposrophes being
replaced with "little squares":

1. Open Word and go to Tools>AutoCorrect Options
2. Go to "AutoFormat" tab and CLEAR "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes"
3. Go to "AutoFormat As You Type" tab and CLEAR "Straight quotes" with
"smart quotes"
