Messages w/attachments stick in my outbox - Why?? (Entourage 2004)

A couple of days ago, my Entourage 2004 ceased sending messages with
attachments, which it had happily done for ~ 2 months prior. Now, I get the
"compressing attachment" message, then "messages waiting to be sent", and
then nothing. The message just sits and rots in my outbox until I get a
message that says "Server action timed out. Blah, blah, blah... Message
could not be sent."

My email account is fine, because I can send messages with attachments via
my ISP's webmail utility. And, I can send messages w/o attachments with
Entourage. I've reinstalled Entourage - all of Office, for that matter - to
no avail. Help! Is there something set wrong that I'm missing? I have a
Mac, running OS 10.3.6.
