Messenger preparing to access Internet for the first time

I have Norton 2003 installed. In the log viewer for the firewall I get
the following message: "An instance of "C:\Program
Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" is preparing to access the Internet for
the first time".

I get this message every two minutes!

What is causing this? Is this a security treat?

For the moment, I blocked internet access to the messenger.

Tks.

I think you may need to find a more appropriate newsgroup, although I'm not
sure if there is one related to Norton AV (and if there is one, it won't be
on the Microsoft server!)

This newsgroup is for questions about security in Access, the database
product.

Let me rephrase my questions then:

- Is there a Micrsosoft newsgroup where I can raise messenger issues
(I couldn't find it)?

- How can I find out why the messenger is trying to access the
Internet every two minutes? Is this a standard feature of messenger?

Tks

You could try microsoft.public.msn.messenger or
microsoft.public.windowsxp.messenger

The point I was trying to make is don't discount the problem being with
Norton AV. There are lots of reports of problems with NAV interfering with
proper program operation.
