metadata visible

In office xp under windows xp - suddenly all metadata is
visible in all documents!

If I delete it and save the document, it comes back when I
open the document again.

How do I fix this?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

I searched high and low for why that was happening. Since
I almost never open files from within Word, I never would
have noticed the setting change in File Open.

I know I didn't change it on purpose, and don't see how I
could have done it inadvertently. Is there a helpful
little "feature" in Word that causes this setting to
change on its own?

I've found if you open a document and if Word is unable to determine
the correct converter then it will use "Recover text from any file".
For example it could be an HTML document that contains data that Word
perceives as a text file.

If you find this happens regularly then in Word go to
Tools/Options/General and turn on "Confirm conversion at Open". Then
if you are presented with the Confirm Conversions dialog box and "Text
file" is selected you can select the correct converter and Word will
not use the Recovery text format.
