MICR in access

Hi All

Monday morning and just be asked to come up with an automated MICR scan
process that will be incorporated into a large DB. As the admin staff are
processing around 30,000 cheques for banking each year automating the input
stored in the MICR strip would save a large amount of time and effort (and
wages).

Basic question is has anyone successfully incorporated an MICR scanner into
an access DB, or, on the other hand, has anyone tried and failed. (reasons ??)

Any tips or hints before I even start looking at the project would be a real
help. Even better (although as it related to banking – highly unlikely) has
anyone seen any sample of DBs. The general idea (just as a 1st thought) is
that the MICR should act just like a keystroke – as I said just a 1st thought.

Any ideas – tips – hints would be great.

Many thanks

Barcode into Access is not uncommon, and I don't think MICR
will be any different. Barcode scanners come in two types:
keyboard emulation (wedge), and not keyboard emulation.

You need to find out first what your MICR scanner looks
like to windows.

Hi David

Thanks for your answer. I got the general methods - basically the same as a
bar code scanner which we use already - was just wondering if anyone had used
the ascii map of the MIRC before. It looks quite simple to convert. Oh well
I will get it to work. Maybe just being lazy and looking for any problems
that anyone else had had.

No worries. thanks again
