Microphone with Microsoft Outlook?

I have a VAIO RZ56G with Microsoft XP Media Center Edition. I'd like to use
my headphone microphone to talk after autodialing through Microsoft Outlook.
I've tested the headset and the speakers work with music and audio, the
microphone works with recorder. Neither work with the autodial. Is there a
way to use the headset and have Media Center audio output automatically mute
during the duration of the phone call?

Is your microphone plugged into the sound card or the modem? Do you have a
V.92 modem? Is your ISP's service a V.92 service?

Microphone is plug into the sound card. I believe the modem is a v.92 modem.
I'm not sure about the ISP service. How do I determine this?

In order to use the microphone within the phone conversation, it must be
plugged into the modem.

Ask them.

What if my modem card only has two telephone jacks, but no earphone jack.
Does this mean I can't use my microphone for this purpose?

All the V.92 modems I've seen have microphone jacks and appear in Windows as
another sound device. Perhaps you don't actually have a V.92 modem and,
hence, can't use it the way you wish.
