Microsoft Access can't start because there is no license for it onthis machine

I am getting this message when I start Access 97 on my Windows XP machine.

Both of them are brand new installation.

Common problem, usually caused by, of all things, a font.

This was a well-known bug in Access97, having to do with (of all
