Microsoft Excel question

I am inputing the number '1' in a cell in Microsoft Excel.
What I would like to do is drag the cell where the number 1 is, drag it
downwards so the next cells can be sequently be populated. i.e. the next
one to be number 2, the next one to be 3 and so on.. At the moment,
when I select the cell that has the number 1 in and drag it downwards,
then next cells remain as 1.
Can you please help?

Hold the Ctrl key while you're dragging and the numbers will increment. Or if
you just see the number 1 in all cells, click on the Options icon that
appears and select "Fill Series".
