does anyone know where you can download the excel program for free?
I'm also in need of a free download program that will help me with my
checkbook and business finances. Does anyone know what program would be best
and where can i get it free?

you can not download excel for free as it is not free.

Excel isn't and never has been free. You can download a free trial
copy of Office 2003 but it is a trial version and it will deactivate
after the trial period (60 days I think):

Your best bet is to buy the Student and Teacher Edition of Office 2003
for about $150:
