Microsoft Jet database engine stopped. How do I restart?

The database shutdown and when I try to reopen, I get the following message:
The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another
user are attempting to change the same data at the same time.

How can I reopen the database?

First thing to try is to reboot your computer. Access might still be running
but not visible.

After that it could well be a corruption issue. At times like this, nothing
beats a good backup. In fact make a complete backup of your database now and
put it away for safe keeping.

Tony Toews has an excellent web page on database corruption.

Allen Brown also has excellent info on corruption.

I have a white paper in a Word document named Fix Corrupt Access Database
towards the bottom this page:

With Access closed, see if you can delete the .ldb file that corresponds to
your database's .mdb file. Make sure you don't delete the .mdb file by
mistake! If you *can* delete the .ldb file, see if you can open the
database afterward. If you can't, then it's likely that Access is still
running in the background, in which case a reboot should clear it.

If none of that helps, your database may have been corrupted, in which case
restoring from a backup is likely your best bet. I see that Jerry Whittle
has posted some good links on database corruption.
