Microsoft Messenger and Outlook

I have outlook in my startup folder, and everytime I
startup my computer, Microsoft Messenger comes up asking
if I want to sign in. I do NOT have Messenger set to
start up either in IE or Outlook, have gone into
messenger's options screen and do NOT have it set to run
in the background. How can I get rid of this, as I
assume it is starting up with Outlook? Thanks...

Just to be sure; is Windows Messenger starting or MSN Messenger?

If you manually start Outlook does Windows Messenger start as well? Also are
you running the latest version of Windows Messenger (v5.x)?
