Microsoft Office 2000 and Works

I installed Office 2000 on a computer that had Windows ME and Microsoft Works
on it. The installation was successful however I cannot open the Works
documents/databases that were stored in "My Documents". Are these documents
gone? Can they be retrieved? I am worried because this is a church computer
that different people use and I may have destroyed their documents.

Installing Office shouldn't have affected Works or existing data
files. What do you mean by "cannot open"? What happens when you
try? If you get an error message, please quote it exactly and
completely.

it just means you can't open them in Word or Access. Go into works and save
docs as a word document in the files of type drop down list at the bottom of
the save as (be sure and use file-save as command) all spreadsheets should be
saved as an excel file...xls and databases should be resaved as an Access
database...mdb...some things may get lost in the conversion. Nothing you can
do about that except open works and word, excel, or access and in works
select all and copy switch to the appropriate program (word, excel won't
really work for access though you could try importing it if the save as
dialog box doesn't work.) and paste it to a bland .doc or xls. MS office is
like a big brother to Works and they just don't play well together.
Siblings, what can one say.
