If this is a personal machine you may want to visit
http://update.microsoft.com
to have it scan the machine for needed Windows and Office updates.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883677?FR=1 may also be helpful.
With Office 2003 Service Pack 3 installed the base version would be
as shown in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821549?FR=1
The later version number you show may be from applying one or more post SP3 hotfix file updates that address specific error
conditions, for specific apps within the MS Office products.
