My Microsoft 2003 will open up but it keep on saying I need to renew.
When I exit that warning, it won't let us type. What do I need to do? And do
I HAVE to purchase a new product?

Maybe you have a trial version of Office 2003, and the trial
period has ended, in which case you do need to purchase the
software if you wish to continue to use it. Or maybe you have
not activated your Office software, in which case you just need
to activate the software you currently have.

What happens if you start Word and click on Help | Activate
Product? If you are already activated, a dialog box saying so
will appear. If you are not activated, the Activation Wizard
will start. If you have an expired trial version, a dialog box
will prompt you to enter a valid product key or convert (purchase
a key) online.

It all depends on whether your Office 2003 was a trial version or not.
If it was a trial version then YES you will need to buy a full version
(or an upgrade version if you have a qualifying product such as WORKS).
If it was a full version then first try Detect & Repair to see if this
fixes any bugs that might be there. To get detect & Repair go to:
Help, Detect & Repair from any applications (assuming they still open!).
