It's a pity they dropped Outlook in favour of OneNote.

Would like to know if 2003 Student and Teacher Edition will be a qualifying
product for upgrade to Office Standard 2007. Outlook is essential for our
kids - not One Note - maybe someone out there has an inkling before the
official list of qualifying products is published?

No, the STE cannot be upgraded. I would think that you could still use
Outlook 2003 even if you buy a suite of Office 2007 that doesn't include
Outlook.

Plus you always have Outlook Express.

But why would you need Outlook? Outlook Express does all the important
things it does except the task list and such - and OneNote does most of
that. OneNote seems like a better addition to this package. If you really
need those things, Outlook Express can handle the contacts, OneNote the
tasks, and Mozilla Sunbird could take care of the calendar.

Oh, and to answer the question, I'm fairly certain that Student and Teacher
editions don't count towards upgrade products.

Pity, as we all like using the Outlook Beta 2, but at least I know now and
can plan ahead - Thanks JoAnn - Kind Regards.

I see. I assumed you had the STE because you asked about it being used as an
upgrade.

Thanks Neodude and JoAnn - Interesting stuff - I do have 2003 STE (sorry
JoAnn maybe wasn't clear where I was with this). As a family we do like the
multiple calendars, tasks etc and the integration with the other products.

As with most families, the challenge is to get everyone to use it and be
comfortable in the process. Had another look at the pricing - HSE plus
Outlook 2007 is a few $ (or £ in my case) more than if 2003 STE was a
qualifying upgrade to Office Standard anyway.

So on balance that is not too bad - particularly if you will use it for
several years (Oh, and you'll get OneNote for when they go to College/Uni)

Thanks Guys!

Not all secondary schools supply software. At least not here in the US.
