I unintentionally removed my office outlook using add or removed programs and
I used system restore but i cannot see the office programs in my add or
removed programs, everytime i open any office programs the message came out
"Cannot start microsoft office outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong
version. This could have been caused by installing messaging software. Please
reinstall outlook."
please help me, I already tried all the adviced from the online support of
microsoft but nothing happens.

System Restore does not restore application programs. We don't know what
you have tried so far, so we can't really add more advice. Have you
tried to reinstall Outlook?

The exact same thing is happening to us. We purchased a new computer with
Windows Vista and installed Office 2003. All programs run fine except for
Outlook, I am also getting this error. How can we get it to run properly?

There seems to be a growing band of us!!!

I posted this on Vista (and promptly got told to come and post it here!):

I've recently installed Office 2003 on a new machine which has Vista
installed; Outlook was working fine on my old machine but on this one I can't
get it to start no matter what I do. When I select the program I get:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong
version. This could be caused by installing other messaging software. Please
reinstall Outlook.

I've searched the web and found various "can't fail" solutions such as using
fixdll.exe; changing all instances of MAPI32.DLL to MAPI32.OLD and letting
Outlook sort itself out and also reinstalling MSMAPI.DLL. Unfortunately none
of thee "can't fail" solutions has worked!

Another solution suggested is to recreate my mail profile (with a link to
instructions), but when I tried to open the Control Panel>Mail I got yet
another error message: "You need more memory or system resources. Close some
windows and try again." - I had NOTHING opened at the time and have a new PC
with vast quantities of memory at it's disposal!

It kind of feels like Microsoft have created a problem and are leaving it to
users to fix - why not get to teh bottom of the issue and send out a patch?

Anyway, can someone PLEASE help me?!

Regards, Jez

I'm having the same problem (mapi32.dll corrupt or missing). My problem is
that I "can't" delete or change the filename of mapi32.dll. I've tried
everything I can think of to change the permission, including going into the
file's: Properties, Security, Edit, Advanced, etc. I'm the "administrator"
and sole user of my computer, so I don't know why it won't allow me change
the permissions. Hhhhhhellllp! Thanks. Matti in Seattle

I am experiencing the same issue. Can anyone from Microsoft give us
direction?

Hi

Has anyone managed to solve this problem?

I have been experiencing the same problems and was wondering, having tried
all of the above suggestions and being unsuccessful, what has worked?

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrongAs several posters above stated-I am part of the growing band of users with
the same problem.
Used the trial of Office 2007 that came with my Lenovo and when it expired
attempted to go back to 2003. I just like it better. Well, did the add/remove
route,. shut down/restarted, installed Office 2003 and all works but Outlook
2003. So, has anyone resolved/solved this? Oh, and I have tried the repair
Office as well, but no help either. I guess Microsoft doesn't monitor this
group because it is "old" software and they want us to upgrade? Dunno all I
know is I have, as I am sure many of you do, need of this program for various
reasons.
Mahalo for allowing me to vent!

Microsoft has never monitored this newsgroup. It is not a support channel,
it is a peer-to-peer communications channel; Outlook users talking to
Outlook users, nothing else.

You have given no diagnostic information. You haven't described exactly how
you've configured your account and exactly what happens when you attempt a
send/receive, including the exact error messages, if any.

Brian,
I understand this is peer-to-peer but we all seem to get the same error
message and therefore can not get to outlook 2003 at all. Right now, though,
I am in the process of re-installing all programs after I had to do a
reformat this morning due to Windows crashing issue.
Hopefully this will work. And I won't be back to the forum again since it
seems that no one has reported HOW to rename a MAPI file and just what to do
after. I did an "uninstall" of 2007 before I put on 2003 and installed 2003
tried to repair 2003 and, again as I said, nothing worked.

I have Outlook 2003 and VISTA Home Premium. I was constantly getting
Microsoft Outlook has stopped working messages. Somewhere I read that the
problem was corrected by deleting some COM add ins. I deleted the iTunes COM
add ins and so far Outlook 2003 has been stable for 48 hours. It used to go
down every hour or more often. It's worth a try if you use iTunes which must
add this add in when it installs. Hope you have the same success.
