I have been using the above for some time without major problems. Just
recently I received an email with attachments. When I opened the attachment I
was informed it was Office 2007......it even asked me to insert the
identification key which I didn't have. I just clicked to continue and was
allowed to read the attcahemnts. However, now I have apparently lost a
feature that I previously had....that of the red underling of misspelled
words as I was writing emails and which could be fixed by the right click of
the mouse. Any suggestions as to how I can get that back?????
many thanks for any advice

If you have XP SP2 or later versions of MS Operating systems you need to
download and install the MS Office compatibility pack from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...C5-49C6-47BD-8BEC-0D68693CA564&displaylang=en.
This will enable you to open Office 2007 files.

Another workaround is to download the Office Trial and install it side by
side (don't let the install uninstall any of your current programs and don't
install Outlook 2007) with your current Office programs. When the trial
expires the programs become viewers only.

Hope this information helps

Boy I must really be tired. When I reread your header (Microsoft Office
Outlook Student & Teacher...) I realize that I definitely misread the post.
Forget what I had said earlier.

Since I was trying out Windows Live Mail to originally create the post and
then reverted to OE for the newsreader, I missed asking one question that I
had originally written. It is:

What was the extension on the attachment that was sent to you? I have a
suspicion but I don't want to say until I find out what the extension of the
file was.

Being pretty much an amateur, I have to admit that I do not understand what
is meanat by the "extension" of the attachment.
sorry

When a file is created the program that creates it normally attaches an
extension to the file so the program knows that the file is of a type that
it can open. Word documents normally have the DOC or with Word 2007 it is
now DOCX. PowerPoint is PPT, etc. To be able to see the extension of a
file you need to have file extensions turned on (it is off by default in XP
and Vista operating systems. Hopefully you have XP and to turn it on start
Windows Explorer (Right click on the Start Button then left click on
Explore.) Click on Tools, Folder Options, View and then scroll down to
"Hide extensions for known file types" and remove the check mark in the box
by clicking on it. Click OK. Now when you get a file the extension will
show up. If you saved the file to your hard drive you can now see the
extension by going to its location and looking.

Now, if you can find the attachment, what is the full name, including the
extension.
