Microsoft Office Picture Manager

The Picture Manager automatically erases the .jpeg file extenstion when I
click to x out of the window and then click to "save" before closing. The
program will operate correctly when I choose to save the more conventional
way, but this other problem should never occur. How do I correct this
problem? Also, is there anyway to restore the lost photos?

If all it did was to omit the extension, just rename the file with the
extension.
