Home and Student does not come in an upgrade version. It also only includes
Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Word. Previous similar versions e.g. Student
and Teacher Edition 2003 included Outlook. Standard, Small Business,
Professional and Ultimate all will let you use your Office 2000 as a
qualifying product for upgrade. It is explained in more detail here.

If you have a ".edu" email check out this deal. If not prices on Amazon are
better than Microsoft's direct prices.

Look at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/FX101754511033.aspx.

The Home & Student 2007 edition is not an upgrade from anything. You just buy
it, uninstall your old Office, and install the new one. Be aware that H&S
doesn't include Outlook, but does include OneNote. Also be aware that H&S won't
be eligible to be upgraded to any later version (they never are).

The Standard 2007 edition will accept Office 2000 as the base for an upgrade. It
includes Outlook, but not OneNote. It will be eligible to be upgraded in the
future.

In any case, the suggested prices on that page are rather more than the "street
price". On Amazon.com, for example, H&S is available for about $75 and Standard
for about $200.

Jay, correction please. Office 2003 and Office 2007 Student versions both
qualify as upgrade products for Office 2007 versions of software. See the
link you posted. The only Student version that doesn't qualify is the XP
version

Qualifying products for upgrade from that web site:
"Microsoft Works 6.0-10; Microsoft Works suite 2000-2006 or later; any
2000-2007 Microsoft Office program or suite; any Microsoft Office XP suite
except Office XP Student and Teacher."
