You can use Open Office (free download) at
http://www.openoffice.org/. It will read and save to Word,
Excel and PowerPoint compatible file types. You may also be
able to purchase a copy of MS Office 2000 on eBay. The
version of Office you have is no longer supported by
Microsoft in any way, shape or form. They do, however, keep
all the service pack updates on the MS web site. I would
not purchase any other version of MS Office from eBay other
than a package to replace your broken CD and when you do
make sure that it is exactly the same version you currently
have. If you want to purchase a newer version of Office,
Office 2003 is currently being sold. If the CD that you
have and it is the first install CD and it is not damaged,
you "probably" be able to use it as a qualifying program for
an upgrade version of Office 2003. If the drive can't read
the first installation CD of the 2000 product you won't be
able to use that version for a qualifying upgrade product to
2003.
While some will say that it is not "legal", if you can find
someone that has the exact version of Office 2000 that you
have, duplicate the appropriate disk from that set and use
it. Since you are only replacing the media, not the
authentication key, there is no problem as the license to
use the software is not tied to the actual media, only the
version of the software.
