The term "backup" means to copy that information, data and files on
separate media or storage device so as to have a "backup" copy available
to use if the primary copy is destroyed, corrupted or otherwise
unusable. Depending on what item you want to make a "backup" of will
determine the "how". Backup of your document file could be placed on a
floppy disk, while if you have many then perhaps copy them to a CD. If
you are worried about the install disks for your programs, you may make
a backup copy with your CD burner. There is much information about this

Lets say that i would want to make backups of my Microsoft Office 2003. Would
the only way to make backups would be trough the CD's that come with the
purchase of the CPU.

That is correct, or purchase them from the computer vendor. You can't
make "backups" by copying various files from the installed product. Only
copying from the original CD.
