Microsoft Outlook Connector

I use Microsoft Office Live, linked to a hotmail account.
When I tried to download my email today, I got a message that I needed
to download a new version of Microsoft Outlook Connector.
I tried, but got a message saying that microsoft office was open (it
wasn't) and to close it and retry.
I verified that Microsoft Outlook was closed, hit the retry button,
still get the same message that it is open.
Suggestions?

You also may have closed Outlook but it's still hanging around
in memory.
Sometimes, buggy add-ins, avoid it to be fully released.
This is the case with the ones installed by Apple iTunes.

Open the task manager with ctrl-shift-esc
Sort the first column by name.
If you see "Outlook", right-click on it and select the
terminate process tree menu.

Retry downloading the connector.
