I have a new Gateway laptop loaded with Office Professional. When I try to
open I get a message that says " Connection to Microsoft Exchange Service is
Unavailable"

"Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action"

my simple question is: How do I do that?

Remove the Exchange account from the Control Panel->Mail Icon->Accounts (why did you choose this when you knew you were not attached to an Exchange server???) and install your POP3 or IMAP account.

Was Office preloaded on your system? If so, they apparently ASSUMED
that you will be using it in an office with Exchange Server. If you
setup the email account, you selected the incorrect type of mail
service you'll be using.

Go to Control Panel > Mail Icon > Accounts and remove the Exchange
account you apparently have listed. If you're not at an office that is
connected to an Exchange Server, then you are probably using an POP3
account. If you are unsure, contact your email provider and ask them
what type of account to use.

Thank you for your comments but if I "as you suggested" knew I was attached
to an exchange server, then I probably would have been able to figure out how
to sign on. Although your response was appreciated it does not give this
novice sufficient direction to solve the problem. If more specific direction
is available I woujld be grateful. Thank you.
