Microsoft Photo Editor

Hello
I have WinXP Pro with SP2 and all current updates. I have ZoneAlarm
7.0.337.000 and Microsoft Office 2003 installed. I cannot open Microsoft
Photo Editor. When I click on it the program doesn't open but places
'Microsoft Photo Editor' on the taskbar. When I click it nothing happens and
the only way to access it is by right clicking and selecting 'Close'. All
other Office applications are working normally and I have put the Office 2003
disc in to do a repair but it still doesn't work. I have also run a disk
fragmentation and done a chkdsk /r which reported some file problems but
fixed them. Could anyone please help?
Many thanks

Hi A.W.,

Do you have an earlier version of Office also installed? MS Office Photo Editor was discontinued after Office XP. Office 2003 has
the MS Office Picture Manager.

Thanks for your reply. I have uninstalled all previous versions of Office
previously. My problem is that Microsoft Photo Editor will not work no matter
what version of Office I use to install it. I WANT Microsoft Photo Editor not
MS Picture Manager that is why I am trying to install it using Office 2000.
When I install it all other Office applications work correctly however
Microsoft Photo Editor doesn't. When I try to open a photograph using
Microsoft Photo Editor all that happens is that the 'Microsoft Photo Editor'
sinks to the task bar and if I click it nothing happens but if I right click
it I can select 'Close'. I have also tried to install Microsoft Photo Editor
using an old Office 97 disc and the same thing happens which has got me
thinking that something is blocking the program.
I am using WinXP Pro with SP2 and all security updates. I am also using
ZoneAlarm version 7.0.337.000 for firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware.
Windows Firewall is switched off. I would be extremely grateful if you could
offer any further advice?
Many thanks

Sounds to me like it is opening somewhere OFF the desktop. After you
start it, r-click the Taskbar and pick Cascade, or Tile windows.

Many thanks although this didn't help. I have all my .jpgs set to Microsoft
Photo Editor as default. What is strange is that when I single left click a
..jpg in 'My Documents' the thumbnail of the picture appears in the 'Details'
column of 'My Documents' but when I double click the .jpg, 'Microsoft Photo
Editor' reduces to the taskbar and the only way I can use Microsoft Photo
Editor from the taskbar is to right click and select 'Close'.
I would be grateful for any further advice.
Many thanks

Further to my last post, if I extract and run Photoed.exe from any of my
Office CD's it does exactly the same as I have described previously i.e
reduces to the task bar.
Thanks

You are a genius!! I have just right clicked on the Microsoft Photo Editor
icon which had reduced to the task bar and clicked 'Maximise' instead of
'Close'. The application has started working. I wish I'd tried this 5 days
ago, how could I be so dumb. I have been installing, uninstalling,
reinstalling etc etc. I must have been having a 'blonde moment' which lasted
5 days although I have black hair.
Many, many thanks to the two Bob's.
Regards
Andrew

If you window it again, and it disappears, you will need to Move it back
to the Desktop. The easiest way is to r-click on the Taskbar( Not the
Photo Editor button) and pick Cascade or Tile.
