I am having problem opening a project done in M.S Project Standard 2003. I
am having a M.S project professional 2003 version installed on my laptop. It
gives me an error message to edit macros. I dont know what to do to open
files. I tried installing the service packs 1, 2 and 3, but still it doesnt
work.

Can someone give me a solution to open the project in professional 2003.

Aloke,
The only difference between Project standard and professional is that
the professional version works with Project Server. If you are not
working with Project Server, you don't need Project professional, but on
the other hand, having the professional version won't hurt anything or
cause any problems.

It sounds like the file you are trying to open has macros installed -
perhaps an Event macro that runs automatically when the file is opened.
Try this. Go to Tools/Macro/Security. Set the security level to "high"
or "very high". Then try opening the file. There is also a key sequence
that can be used to prevent macros from running but unfortunately, I
forgot what it is. Maybe someone else can help jog my memory.

Hope this helps.

Hi John,

When opening a file from Project hold the shift key down to open the file
without running any auto_open macros. This works in other Office apps as
well.

Rod,
Thanks. I could probably have looked it up, but I admit it, I was in a
time pinch and a little bit lazy.

Hi Gill/ John,

I tried opening the file by changing the security as well as holding the
shift key but still it gives me an error message. The error it gives me is to
verify the argument values are the same and has a tab at the bottom to edit
macros.

Do I need to istall any patches apart from SP1,2,3. I did attach all these
patches from the website.

Hi Aloke,

This error appears to be related to a specific macro in the project file you
attempt to open. Based on this very brief description below it does not
appear to have any relation to the service packs 1, 2, 3.

What happens if you indicate that the argument values are the same? Is
there an okay button to go along with the tab?

HTH,

Aloke,
SP3 is the latest update for Project 2003. There are no other patches
(that I am aware of) that need to be installed.

I've never seen any kind of message like the one you are reporting.
Could you send me the file to my e-mail address below? If you can, I'll
take a look at it and see how it works for me. I will ask some questions.
