Microsoft Project Pro 2003 authentication not in domain

Hello,

I have set up Project Server 2003 on a Windows 2003 Server in my
company's domain and it all works well. Every computer in the domain
that has Project Pro installed works fine. However, I have a user with
a laptop that has XP home installed so I can't add his machine into the
domain. Because of this, I have no idea how to get Project Pro 2003 to
authenticate to the Project Server.

I was able to get his PWA working by adding the server URL into the
Trusted Sites area of IE and configuring it so that it prompts for his
username, password, and domain. I just can't find a way to have
Project Pro prompt for the login info in the same fashion. That's the
only thing I can think of to get Project Pro to work on a machine that
is not joined to the domain.

Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

You'll need to create a local Windows account for the user on the Project
Server machine. Use the exact user name and password this person uses to log
onto their machine.

Hi Gary,

I added an account on the Project Server machine using the exact user
name and password as you have instructed. Then in the PWA
administration area for the user's account I set the Windows
Authentication domain to the Project Server name rather than my
company's domain. So now it's "ProjectServerName\UserX" instead of
"CompanyDomain\UserX". He can now get to the PWA page automatically by
just calling the URL, but Project Professional still gives an error.
Did I do something wrong?

Thanks

Try setting the Browser security settings to prompt for username and
password.
