Microsoft Project Server Spooler

J

John Carter

I interface with MS PWA via desktop workstation and a
laptop. The problem is associated with the laptop.
Although I can perform all functions while interfaceing
with MS PWA, including logging on using my MS Windows user
account, including checking out Enterprise projects, and
resources, and updating those resources, via publish, I
cannot send task assignments to resources, owed to the
following error that the spooler reports:
Message type:publish new and changed assignments
Error:The Windows User Account is not valid(0x8C04000C)
Manager:xxxxx\username where xxxxx is the laptop name.

If I use my desktop workstation which is within the MS
Domain, here at work, I have no problem with this very
same function. I suspect, the problem is associated with
the xxxxxxx, i.e. the computer name, but I don't know
where to begin with attempting to figure out how to
address this specific problem with the spooler.

If you're logging on with the domain user id you shouldn't have any
problems - but it seems to me that you're logging on to the laptop locally
(?) - otherwise you'd not get the xxxxx\username, right?
If you're running XP or W2K, try creating a shortcut to project and adding
the runas and netonly command to the shortcut, like this:
"runas /user:domain\user /netonly yourpathtoproject\winproj.exe"
Double-clicking on this shortcut will show a command window in which you
enter your password (don't worry if your keyboard entries don't seem to
work - they're hidden) and hopefully Project will start under your domain
credentials.
