Microsoft Project Spooler Error - HELP.

James Hart

Hi, I'm a newbie to Project Server.

I've created an Enterprise Resource Pool from Outlook without a problem.
The resources show up in the server fine. I then created a project with some
dummy tasks, and assigned resources from the Enterprise.

But when I publish the project, I get a Spooler Error which reads:
Message Type: Publish New and Changed Assignments
Error: SYSTEM ERROR (0x80004005)

It then tells me that I've successfully published information to the server,
but when I log into Web Access I have the following 2 problems.
1) I can't view the project, it says there is no project information to view
2) The time has not registered for any of the resources...they are 100% FREE.

Any help would be appreciated.

James:

The error indicates an authentication failure. This very often is due to
permissions not set correctly on viewdrop folder. It would be helpful to
have the corresponding errors in the server application event log and to
know what version you're using in order to get specific.

There are two KB articles about the spooler error:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;328249
and
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;838882

We have followed the recommendations in the first but didn't have any luck
in our case, but you might try those recommendations first. The sysadmins are
working on getting SP1 and the hotfix installed; hoping that resolves the
80004005 spooler error.

Not sure at this point why things aren't showing up for you in PWA, but if
you get the ViewDrop folder problems resolved, that might help.

All:

I notice that I get one of the spooler errors (80004005 I believe) also, but
it occurs generally when I am in Project Pro, Collaborate, Update Project
Progress. I was reading one of the articles linked below--we are in the
process of installing SP1, and I am on a Novell Network (I'll check the
advanced settings when I log in next).

An observation I have made is that for a few specific users, when I approve
submitted hours, I don't always see an increase in the project's actual work
that I expect. To be more specific, I count the "red" hours before I approve
the time for an individual user (in this case let's say 40 hours). Once
processed, I expect to see 40 hours added to the total actual hours. I don't
always get what is expected (sometimes more hours, sometimes fewer hours).
It seems to me that it has something to do with the spooler error that
generally follows an unsuccessful update of total actual hours (I generally
get several spooler errors during an update session). This seems to happen
to only a few users--the large majority of my user's hours update total
actual hours without any problem.

Will the SP1 implementation correct this too?
