microsoft windows 2000 slow start up time

I have an ibm thinkpad and there is lots of free space, however it take
approx 13-15 minutes to start up but once started i can surf and access files
just fine? Can someone help me, I am not a computer expert but given
direction can get around alright....tks

Start off by booting in safe mode, any better?
If so visit IBM for any driver updates.
Perhaps also you have unneccessary apps in your start up, initial check
those shown in your task bar, for those you dont need, see if there is an
option within them, to set not to start up.
