Microsoft Word 1997 version

On one of my computers, I have Microsoft Word 1997
version. In the process of learning this software,
somehow, I had inadvertently changed word. As you are
typing a document in word, the whole page is blackened out
and the only way to see what you have typed is save the
document. Therefore you are unable to view in order to
correct any errors. Could you please provide assistance
in how to correct this problem. Just email me the
appropriate steps. I do not want to remove word and than
re-instal as I have numerous documents already in word.

Hi Ron,

This may well be due to some corruption in your Word program. You may be
able to fix it by just reinstalling over the top of the existing application
but, if not, uninstalling an re-installing should not affect any of your
existing documents.

See "WD2002: A Black Bar Appears Across the Page When You Type" at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=303507 (don't know whether this applies
to Word 97 or not). In any case, it is likely to be a display issue rather
than a problem with Word. Have you tried updating your display driver?
