Word has worked OK for over 2 years but now refuses to
load. When clicking on the Word icon, the licensing
screen appears but nothing else happens. The same occurs
if clicking on Start, Programs, Word. I have also tried
uninstalling Word and reinstalling Word. An early
solution will be gratefully received.

See the following FAQ:

A corrupt printer driver or normal.dot would be the most likely problem.

Try:-
With Word NOT running
Open Windows Explorer & do a search of all physical hard drives for Normal.dot
& delete all found examples.
Try opening Word, it may be OK.
Hope this helps.
Mike.

DON'T follow this advice or you will end up losing any important
customisations or macros.

As Terry says, we never advise *deleting* Normal.dot. Renaming it will
accomplish the same thing (Word will generate a fresh, factory-default
copy), and you will still be able to retrieve your customizations from
Normal.old (Normal.bad, or whatever you renamed it to) using the Organizer.
