Microsoft Word 2007 Crash Issue---Help!

J

I have a full, purchased version of Word 2007 installed on my Dell XPS
M1530 laptop (also running a full, purchased version of Vista Ultimate).
I have downloaded and applied every update from Microsoft that I can
possibly have.

Two days ago, I attempted to compose a word document for an assignment
in one of my classes. Upon utilizing the "Save as" feature, Microsoft
Word immediately stopped responding, then proceeded to crash and close.
The problem has remained persistent.

Instead, I tried typing the document in WordPad. I saved the file in
rich text format inside WordPad, which worked perfectly. If I open this
rich text file with Word 2007 and resave, Word won't crash....

This leads me to believe that the crash relates only to attempting to
"Save" or "Save As" .doc or .docx files.

I've read other threads relating to this issue, and the recommendations
are as follows:
-delete temporary files
-run Office Diagnostics
-make sure you aren't running a trial version of Office (and I'm not)

These suggestions have all failed, and I have yet to locate my Office
2007 Installation CD.... :(

I'd greatly appreciate any advice because I'd like to not have to
continue to use WordPad to complete college assignments containing
high-level formatting. I'd also like to not have to purchase a second
copy of this buggy Office 2007 suite. Thanks!

p.s. how should I run a full search on my machine for the autorecovery
files beginning with the tilde (~)????.... For example, ~WRA0001
