Microsoft Word 97 - Will Not Open

When trying to start Word from icon or from its listing in
start - programs it locks up. If we click on a word
document it opens up and runs fine. We have removed it
twice and deleted the folder microsoft office under
program files. We reinstall and it still will not open.

Any ideas on what I can do?
