microsoft word 98 edits

when I open msw98 it now starts with the prompt:
"the visual basic editor could not be loaded.
there may not be enough memory
to load the libraries or files
may have been deleted or moved from
their originally installed locations."

I called tech support and was told I didn't
need visual basic editor, just ignore the prompt
but it affects my commands in ways that are really a pain:

I can't scroll forward (or right directional arrow)
to correct document errors and the cut/paste drag function
goes weird (always) on the first try. It automatically throws the
item I try to highlight and drag anywhere from five to ten lines
previous so that I have to find it, retrieve it and
put it where I really want it. Once I get past this initial
bug, subsequent 'highlight and drags' work normally.

I actually have no idea as to what caused this.
Any suggestions (cause and or cures)
would be appreciated
Thank

What "tech support" did you talk to - if you paid to talk with MS's
customer support, you should ask for your money back!

This is a well known problem (though the solution is less clear
cut). See the MS Knowledge Base article

Hi Gloria,

You almost certainly have an old but persistent virus. You need to install
a good virus protection program, make sure it's updated and run a deep disk
scan.

Hope this helps.
