microsoft word does not start up

i have word 2000 on my computer and whenever i start it
up i get the following message:

Microsoft Word for Windows has enountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

then it goes on and on to say send error report or dont
send.

we have windows xp home edition and word works on all of
the other accounts but mine. ive tried reconfiguring the
computer and reinstalling word but it doesnt work. any
ideas on whats wrong? oh and i called the customer
support line, i didnt get any help, and they charged me
35 dollars and i didnt even know we had to pay because a
friend gave me the number. is that right?

reinstalling rarely helps because it doesn't overwrite Normal.dot or the
Registry or clear out any add-ins, and those are the three chief causes of
problems in this area. When you do get such a problem, though, let me
encourage you to send the error report. Especially with Word 2000, the team
assigned to analyze this data has probably had enough reports of similar
problems to have derived a solution, and you may well get a helpful reply.
