Microsoft Word Hangs When Opening Files From Network Drive

I'm looking for some answers here and I hope someone on
this thread can assist:

When a user opens up a file (mainly a Microsoft Word
document) on a network drive, it hangs. I wish I could
that it was the workstation and the copy of Microsoft
Office on the workstation is corrupt, but there have been
several users experiencing this problem.

The steps a user would take to open a file on a network
drive are:

1) Click FILE
2) Click OPEN
3) Navigate to network drive (in our case it's the "I
drive")
4) Word goes through the directory structure, but hangs on
a folder.

I checked the folder on which it's hanging up on to see
how big the folder is and it's only 150K (Not big at
all). Any ideas? Anyone else experience this?

In the absence of any critical information such as Word version, OS version,
Server OS and network it is almost impossible to be specific in a reply. But
my first thought is that you are using a mapped drive. Word does not like
mapped drives. Under tools, Options, File Locations tab, make sure that any
network paths are using the full UNC path and not mapped drive letter.
