Microsoft Word has visible tabs on the page that I cannot get rid of

I have Word 2003 installed on a number of machines . One of them has
what appear to be tab markers on the page as below. I don't recall
ever setting these and I find it irritating. Can anyone explain what
they are and how I might get rid of the? On comparing two machines I
discovered that both are up to date in terms of Office Updates but the
machine that displays these tabs has Asian language support. Not sure
if that makes any difference. All thoughts appreciated.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately that didn't work. I have come to the
conclusion at this stage that it must be the Asian support, which I
installed to view some documents.
