Microsoft Word toolbar icons

All of my word documents, new and old, come up with the
copy and paste icons inactive. I cannot copy or paste any
documents because of this. Can you offer any suggestions
on how to fix this problem?
Sometimes the copy icon is inactive but the paste icon iw
active and will paste a document that I copied long ago.
The paste icon is still active even after the paste icon
is pressed.

You must have text selected before the Copy icon becomes active. Have you
tried using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to copy and paste?
