Migrating/importing from 2002 to 2003

I'm in the process of migrating our firm from 2002 to 2003 (enterprise). We
are setting up an entirely new server (physical and all). We have
successfully migrated the entire 2002 database onto the new
server--everything went swimmingly and it seems to be an exact copy (1000's
of resources, all kinds of codes, settings, permissions, etc.). However, we
would now like to make some configuration/customization changes to the new
server before we go live with it. The problem is that, right before we go
live (at which time we are also deploying the 2003 client enterprise-wide),
we will need to import the latest projects plans, since changes will have
been made to them in the meantime. Is there a way to import just the plans
without overriding all of our new customizations? There are about 50 plans,
some quite large.

Thanks,

Marcus --

The way to import an existing project is to log into Project Server through
Microsoft Project Professional and to click Tools - Enterprise Options -
Import Project to Enterprise. In the Import Project Wizard, set the options
for the project and then pay special attention to the matching of resources.
Once you have imported the project, you should click Collaborate - Publish -
All Information to "push" all of the project data to PWA. You will also
need to click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments and select the
"Overwrite actual work entered by resources" option to "push" the actuals to
each user's timesheet in PWA.

You will need to do this process manually for each of the 50 or so projects.
Believe me, the time you spend in the Import Projects wizard will be worth
it as you can make sure that every project conforms to your company's
Project Server 2003 standards. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale,

I'm well aware of how to import a project one at a time. I was just
wondering if there was someway to migrate/convert or backup/restore just the
tables in the data base for the project plans without overwriting everything
else.

I guess not. Thanks!
