Milestone Resource Allocations?

L

We have encountered differing views regarding with assigning resources to
milestones:

1) One of our practioners - assign to show milestone ownership - will 100%
allocation
2) Microsoft tech support - should not in that this has be known to raise
issues with schedule calculations

It has been challenging to get any specific details or rational for either.

Comments would be appreciated.

By my recollection, consensus on this newsgroup by the experts is to not
assign resources to milestones. Perhaps due to technical issues;
however, practically it makes no sense since miletones are by defintion:
duration=0, which means even with resources assigned work=0.

Conceptually, milestones are only a point on the path to progress
completely. Seems to me that even the milestones are not something that
can be owned. The tasks/deliverables that lead to the milestones are
surely more important to have ownership assigned.

I usually use Text1 field to be "Leader" and mark all tasks that need a
defined leader there.

Hi,

Just to make sure: you are using the word milestone to denote a zero
duration task (the PMI and MSP definition) and not as a summary task (which
is often done in Germany)?
Assigning resources to milestones is transparent, no problem
Assigning resources to summary tasks is definitely NOT best practice.
