Yes, it is possible to track project milestones in both Microsoft Project
Professional and in Project Web Access. When creating the project plan in
Microsoft Project, be sure to include relevant milestones in the plan and to
baseline the entire project before entering actuals. Baselining the project
will capture your estimated start and finish dates for all tasks in the
plan, including the milestones. After baselining the project, be sure to
publish the plan using Collaborate - Publish - All Information, and do the
same every time you update actuals into the project plan.
To view Start/Finish date variance for the milestones in the Microsoft
Project plan, do the following:
1. Open the project in question
2. Click View - Tracking Gantt
3. Click the Filter drop-down list on the Formatting toolbar and select the
Milestones filter
There is no Project milestones view in Project Web Access, therefore, your
Project Server administrator will need to create one for you. The new
Project view should apply the Tracking Gantt as the Gantt Chart format with
a custom filter set to test for Milestone Equals Yes. Once your admin has
created this view, you can click the hyperlink for the project in the
Project Center and then apply the new detailed Project view. Hope this
helps.
